Kansas Whitetail Deer

Everyone knows about Kansas' reputation as a big buck producer. For years, we searched for a good Kansas hunt. It was not an easy task. Kansas is a big state and there are not a lot of places in Kansas where you can consistently grow big buck deer. But, we finally found an area with a combination of exceptional genetics, fantastic feed, and limited access and land ownership patterns that will allow consistent production of great deer.

Trophy quality to expect on this hunt is 140-160" with upper-end bucks possible. We have harvested 170-200"+ bucks in the area in the recent past. This is a great place to archery hunt during the rut, and there is generally some limited rutting activity at the beginning of the rifle hunt. We try to target specific bucks for the most part, but we also hunt likely looking sign and topography.

Archery hunting is the month of November, and rifle hunting is roughly the first two weeks of December -- although the season dates do and will change each year. Please visit the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks' website for specifics at www.kdwp.state.ks.us. Kansas has recently instituted a preference point system for their deer license draw, which allows for planning and some certainty of drawning a license.

Accommodations and food on this hunt are decent, but in no way extravagant. This is a hunter's hunt -- the way to the spa is the other direction.

This is not the hunt for a guy that just wants to shoot a buck -- we are actively managing these deer and don't want young bucks shot. This is also not a hunt for a guy that needs to shoot a giant buck -- there are not many giant bucks anywhere. But if you would appreciate a buck in the 140-160 range with the possibility of a giant showing up, I don't know of any better place to get it done.
